Like so many people, I've given up the 'New Years Resolution' practice
in favor of something that is actually realistic for me...
I choose a single word for the year.
This word, whatever it is, both embodies the essence and qualities I yearn for
and leaves room for the growth of the concept behind it as the year unfolds.
Last year, my word was 'Enthusiasm'.
Last year, my word was 'Enthusiasm'.
I pledged to myself to find and live with enthusiasm as much as possible.
It was impossible at times, but as the 'guiding principle' that I had chosen,
it was a dim light glimmering in the distance as I mucked my way through the dark.
Yet as I look back on 2013, I can see that I did, indeed, live with enthusiasm most of the time
as I progressed on my path of healing to once again embrace hope, joy, and life.
I've come farther than I honestly thought I ever could.
In 2012, I chose 'Remarkable'.
I could never have imagined the way that word would come into play throughout the year...
In all, it certainly was a year of utterly Remarkable events.
And so, on this first day of a New Year, of 2014, I have finally chosen a word for the year.
Many were considered, but most of them spoke only to what I have already experienced...
and what's needed is a word that leads the way, that reminds me of all that I hope for and dream of.
Frankly, that's not an easy task.
I have had to let go of all that I previously hoped for and dreamed of,
and I am slowly figuring out who I am now that all of that is gone,
along with what it is that I want, desire, and need in my life now.
As I do that, one word and one concept kept coming to mind:
CREATE.
I can create the life I desire to live.
I was born to create - I've known that all my life.
Whether in words or pictures, drawings, sketches, or photographs,
CREATE.
I can create the life I desire to live.
I was born to create - I've known that all my life.
Whether in words or pictures, drawings, sketches, or photographs,
whether it's products or design plans or decorated rooms,
I am a creator. I make things. I bring my visions to life.
I always have:
I always have:
And that's exactly what I plan to do in 2014,
with this word continually reminding me of the proverbial ruby-red slippers on my very own feet.
I've had the power all along....
I've had the power all along....
and now, I know I can use it to get me right where I have always belonged.
